I've been following photography for 10 years now, slowly upgrading my camera over time.
I started out with a P&S Casio 3200 then made the leap into the SLRs.
The Canon Rebel XT was the first one I bought and it took decent phots and had good light balancing. After that i picked up the Canon Rebel XTI which had many improvements both physically and operating-wise.
I sold the XTI last week and am preparing to purchase my new Canon 50D. It was a tough decision to decide between the 40D and the 50D as they are very similar cameras, however, overall the 50D has a few more features and is more expandable for the future so thats the route i'll be taking. I am hoping to purchase the camera within a month so that i have it going into spring.
Having sold my 18-55mm lens with the XTI i will also need to purchase a new general shooting lens. Reviewing various lenses, it looks that i will be getting the same lens that my friend nebey has (17-55mm) as i really like the low light 2.8f IS USM.
Some of the lenses i use are the canon 75-200mm telephoto(F4L.) It's a nice lens and works well in normal light..not as nice as the 2.8IS but then it's half the price...and well, one day i'll get it :)
My primary lens is the 10-22mm 3.5-5.6 Ultra Wide with a circular polarizing filter. I love to shoot landscape and nature so for me this lens is fantastic.
Occasionally i break out the 100mm tele-macro..not as applicable, but fun to use none the less for those up close from a far photos :)
My tripod is a Manfrotto 190xprob with an 804r head piece. This by far is best tripod i've ever used....light weight, tough and extremely versatile, its legs fold into various angles to allow shooting down to a couple inches from the ground.
I use Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 for photo editing and Photomatix for HDR photos.
